Body/Mind Healing with Emmett & Sandra Miller

Individual/personal retreats

What’s more relaxing and healing than an appointment with Emmett and/or Sandra Miller? Why, a day or two (or more) in a private personal retreat for you, alone, or with your significant other!

Imagine a relaxing, peaceful time away from all distractions at the Millers’ "Spirit of Rock Creek" retreat center. Far from the maddening crowds, worlds removed from work and tight schedules, in a secluded, comfortable, beautiful spot adjacent to miles of hiking trails, you can renew, rejuvenate and heal deeply. And just five minutes away are scores of beautiful, natural swimming spots in the legendary Yuba River. Then, there are lovely equestrian, OHV, and walking trails in the nearby Tahoe National Forest. And barely more than an hour away is gorgeous Lake Tahoe and the hiking trails of Grouse Ridge and Sierra Buttes.

The little town of Nevada City is listed on the National Register of Historical Places, replete with classic Victorian houses and picturesque shops. Nearby, you’ll find lakes for boating and fishing as well as other splendid opportunities for physical recreation and exploration, ideal for enhancing your relaxation and rejuvenation experience.

During your retreat time, you may have one or several hours of consultation and treatment with Sandra and/or Emmett Miller each day. You are housed in your own private housekeeping unit, just a few steps from Dr. Miller’s consultation room and Sandra’s massage therapy suite.

A personal healing retreat is recommended for:

  1. those who wish to do intensive work and make profound changes in the shortest period. They are excellent for deep age regression analysis, physical/dietary cleansing, and deep bodywork. This is a place of safety and privacy where you can explore opening at a very vulnerable level.
  2. those who need a serenity break, enhanced by soothing bodywork and/or guided imagery, for maximum stress reduction.
  3. those wishing to quickly reach specific goals, such as: marriage/relationship enrichment, spiritual awakening, in-depth ayurvedic evaluation, or healing at-risk relationships.

Massage and Ayurvedic Consulting with Sandra Miller, CMT

In your work with Dr. Miller, you are invited to explore all the dimensions of your health. For some conditions he recommends specific kinds of massage, bodywork, dietary therapy, and so forth. Although a certified masseur, Dr Miller generally does not personally perform the bodywork.

In many cases people’s bodies have stored tension so thoroughly that they have a difficult time getting the body to respond to even the most relaxing forms of guided imagery, in person or with audios or videos. For many of them, physical massage/body work is "just what the doctor ordered!" A skillful body worker knows how to coax even the most tense muscles in to relaxing. This in turn relieves the "vicious circle" of stress—tension—pain that underlies so many conditions.

Fortunately, a skilled body therapist is not far away. Sandra Miller is extraordinarily adept at guiding people, by way of healing touch and massage, into very deep states of relaxation. In fact, the majority of her clients report, after even one session, they’ve never been "so relaxed" in their lives. In addition to the relaxation many people find that the healing process is initiated or speeded up through the massage and energy work that is Sandra’s specialty. Especially when muscle tension is a part of the problem, bodywork is a crucial part of the healing process (as well as being the most enjoyable).

The massage/physical therapy suite is located at Dr Miller’s office, and although some choose to work with Sandra and Dr Miller on different days, most people, especially those having difficulty relaxing and letting go, choose to schedule back-to-back appointments. Working with Sandra before your session with Dr Miller can enable you to much more easily enter the deepest trance/relaxation states, access deeply buried material and be open to profound personal change, healing, transformation, inspiration and peak performance. A session with Sandra after working with Dr Miller, particularly when a great deal of inner work has been done, helps the body "metabolize" the newly exposed material. Especially after working with deep traumas, especially when there has been physical, sexual or emotional trauma, the bodywork leads to quick, deep and thorough rebalancing, or rapid return to feelings of pleasure with body.

Diet and meditation training are also available through Sandra, who is a certified Ayurvedic Practitioner.

Biography of Sandra Miller

Sandra learned massage in the early 1970s at the Esalen Institute, where, subsequently, she initiated her body therapy practice. She conducted workshops and trainings there, and served on their massage staff for several years. During this period she was trained in a number of bodywork techniques, including Esalen Massage, Swedish Massage and Deep Tissue Work.

Sandra’s most important discovery during this time was her deep desire to share with others a valuable and deeply healing truth, "Under the appropriate conditions, it is safe to be touched! Something transformative takes place when you can just relax and receive without anyone wanting anything from you."

In the mid-1970s Sandra studied meditation with Arica Institute, and later taught meditation and led trainings in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, and London.

She has studied various modalities of bodywork over the years, among them Zone therapy, Accupressure, Touch For Health, Trager Massage, Warm stone massage, and Ayurvedic therapies. Sandra has incorporated portions of each of them, along with her own healing and meditative approaches, to evolve her own unique style of massage. Recently she has graduated from the California College of Ayurveda, and is practicing Ayurvedic Medicine and Pancha Karma Massage.

For 25 years Sandra has worked in conjunction with Dr. Miller, providing valuable support for Deep Healing, Personal Growth, Spiritual Awakening and Peak Performance. Appointments for combined work (with Dr. Miller), or for a Personal Retreat may be made, as well as individual massage treatments.

Sandra Miller’s Practice
Given her vast experience and eclectic training, it is no surprise that the style Sandra has developed is quite unique. Indeed, it virtually transcends technique. She begins by attuning herself to her client, tuning in to the needs of that specific individual and responding to that person's body according to its need—whether this need be for deep massage, ethereal energy work, emotional release, or a mixture of these. She works sensitively, to release the tension in the body at the rate that it is most comfortable and safe for that individual.

The goal of her work is to create a safe place for an individual to simply relax thoroughly or to go deeper into the patterns of holding in the body. The aim of this deeper exploration is to release fear, anger, resentment, sorrow, abuse (emotional, physical and mental) and so forth. The resulting freedom allows one to fully experience the "present".

Beyond all this, a massage from Sandra is a voyage into safety, peace, joy and pleasure. As a gift to yourself, or to someone you love, an unforgettable experience.

Some of the modalities she utilizes are:

Bliss Therapy, a Rejuvenative Ayurvedic Massage Treatment.
Bliss Therapy is a combination of three therapies:

  • Abhyanga, a carefully choreographed massage technique, administered by two practitioners, simultaneously, using warm oils.
  • Shirodara, a deeply relaxing and centering experience during which a thin stream of warm oil flows continuously over the forehead soothing the mind and nervous system
  • Swedana, an herbal steam treatment that relaxes the muscles, increases circulation, and allows the oils to penetrate into the body nourishing the skin.

Warm Stone Massage
On one of her recent trips to Maui, Hawaii, Sandra learned an entirely new approach to massage, utilizing smooth, warm rocks. She considers this a most valuable addition to her repertoire. Infusing the rocks with moist heat and placing them on the body creates a remarkably grounded feeling, as if one is experiencing the earth in a new way through the stones. It seems muscles are more willing to let go as the heat soothingly penetrates, thus allowing her hands and fingers to encourage an even deeper release of tension.

Ayurvedic Medicine
Sandra has recently completed her studies in Ayurvedic Medicine at the California College of Ayurveda and is currently completing her Internship . During her internship period, Sandra will be offering Ayurvedic consultations for a much-reduced rate. Sandra has also studied the Pancha Karma Therapies with Dr. Ladd and at the California College of Ayurveda.
