Self-Healing 101

Learn about the Science and Methods

Dr. Miller’s innovative thinking in the 1970s contributed to the development of these seven powerful Mind-Tools. Since then many scientific studies have proven their efficacy. Currently, mainstream medicine is beginning to learn how these self-applied strategies can produce rapid healing, peak performance, peace, and happiness.

Scroll down for a brief introduction to each by their creator, Emmett Miller, or choose one from above.

Guided Imagery

Guided by a voice, a guide, a friend,
A beacon of light, a partner, always at your side
A soft, soothing voice, a trusted friend and guide
A beacon of light, skillful healer by your side
Words of wisdom, compassionate urging
A gentle reminder, the healthy You emerging.

What Is Guided Imagery?

Guided Imagery –

1. A self-help or therapeutic intervention during which a person visualizes or imagines themselves, events, memories, or scenarios that are suggested, in order to create physiological and psychological healing.

2. The least expensive, safest, and often most effective way to resolve most illnesses.

3. An effective tool to go beyond mere symptom relief to impact the actual source of illness. In fact, guided imagery is all of these, as you can discover for yourself.

Self Healing

“The witch doctor succeeds for the same reason all the rest of us succeed. Each patient carries his or her own Doctor inside him or her. They come to us not knowing the truth. We are at our best when we give the Doctor who resides within each patient a chance to go to work . . .”

Albert Schweitzer

What is Self-Healing?

What? We don’t need Doctors, or Hospitals, or expensive drugs? We don’t need healthy diets, or regular exercise, or Chiropractic adjustments?

Not exactly. Self-healing does not dismiss the importance of medical treatment, especially for such situations as acute injury or infection. Western medicine’s advances in these areas are truly eye-popping indeed.

Beneficial practices like exercise and a healthy lifestyle are excellent complements to Self-healing. However, at its core, Self-healing refers to activating the innate ability of your body to heal itself through the use of . . .

Mind-Body Medicine

Mind and body, entwined as one,

A unified essence, a web of healing begun,

Ancient wisdom, held captive by greed,

Profit-driven system, designed to mislead.

But Love’s embrace and spirit’s might, turn the darkness into light,

Through all life’s storms, and darkest night, to peace and healing, our souls’ birthright.

What is Mind-Body Medicine?

Mind-Body Medicine is the revolutionary approach first introduced by Dr. Miller in the 1970s. It differs from mainstream medicine in that it recognizes the profound connections between mind, body, emotion, and spirit;  It harnesses their power to unleash healing and transformation. Mind-Body Medicine comprises a dynamic, all-encompassing paradigm that blends ancient wisdom with modern science to tap the innate healing potential of the human body.

This cutting-edge discipline recognizes that our thoughts, feelings, and beliefs profoundly impact physical health and well-being. Mind-Body approaches to treatment emphasize the fact that…

Mind-Tools

“Canst thou not minister to a mind diseased, / Pluck from the memory a rooted sorrow,

Raze out the written troubles of the brain / And with some sweet oblivious antidote

Cleanse the stuff’d bosom of that perilous stuff / That weighs upon the heart?”

-Macbeth, William Shakespeare

What are Mind-Tools?

Have you ever felt like our medical system is missing something? Ever sensed that, to your doctor, you were just another appointment, another box to be ticked, another insurance payout–and that your personal wishes or healing capacity were the least important considerations in the exam room? Not every doctor’s office is this way, but far too many are.

“I witnessed the sad truth as a medical student: many in the medical profession had neither the time nor the desire to really listen to their patients, and to offer them personalized, compassionate healing plans.  Their focus was on their special technical skills and expertise. I also came to discover that in creating an empathic relationship with my patients, my own desire for them to become healthy and happy could significantly boost their healing, well-being, and positive outlook.

My dreams of treating not just the symptoms, but the source of patients’ illnesses were realized when I conceived and developed the concept of Mind-Tools. These are self-applied mental/emotional techniques that melt away anxiety and rescript the unconscious mind to produce healing and transformation.”

Stress

Stress is not something that happens to you, stress is something you do with what happens to you.

At its root is being “here,” but wanting to be “there.”

The best anti-stress weapons: deep relaxation, wise thoughts, and guided imagery.

What is Stress?

Stress, The Silent Killer

It is true that certain forms of stress, at the right time, can be pleasant, healing, and even thrilling. Yet if you are unhappy and unhealthy, stress may be the factor that is making you unhappy . . . and even killing you.   Current medical research demonstrates that 90-95% of all our illnesses and symptoms–physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, social, and behavioral–are strongly related to decisions being made by that two-pound powerhouse between your ears, the human biocomputer, your brain. Stress decisions!

We are all experientially familiar with the concept, and the condition, of feeling stressed. We’ve all felt it, and we use the word in everyday conversation: “I was so stressed,” “You’re stressing me out,” “Don’t stress about it,” and so on.  But most people don’t realize that stress is not something that happens to us. The fact is, stress is simply the highly maladaptive way our nervous systems react to the challenges in our lives–the stressors. You have the power to change this reaction and harness the energy of stress.

Meditation

Allowing what is, embracing the unknown,

With peace in our mind, we find silence our home

Like the unwavering flame, in a windless space,

Meditation guides us to our inner grace.

What is Meditation?

Meditation is a powerful tool that has been used for thousands of years to promote inner peace, reduce stress, and cultivate a state of mind that is peaceful, focused, and free from distraction. Generally, in all of these cultures, meditation is part of the religious practice of the shaman, priest, or medicine man, and sometimes it is taught to all members of the community, often in the form of “prayer.”  However, at the heart of all forms of meditation lies the goal of achieving a mind characterized by clarity, calmness, and presence.

Traditionally, meditation involves sitting quietly while focusing on an object, a sound, a thought or emotion, or simply the breath. Dr. Miller has developed ways to augment the meditative experience with the soothing guidance of his voice, enabling more rapid entry into a deeper meditative state. Most people notice this effect within minutes. Once the doorway to the subconscious has been opened, the effectiveness of guided imagery, the language of the subconscious, is multiplied. This allows us to travel through time and space to calmly evoke and decondition past patterns of thoughts and behaviors and then to create new behaviors and beliefs. This “guided meditation” is at the essence of his self-healing approach.

The meditative state of mind is almost a pre-requisite…

Mindfulness

There is only here, nowhere you need to go,

Be in the moment, See what is so,

Go within or travel afar,

What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is about being fully present in the moment, without judgment, and with kindness toward oneself. It means focusing on what’s happening right now—what you’re sensing, feeling, and thinking—instead of dwelling on the past or worrying about the future. This contrasts with our usual state of mind, often involving reflecting on the past, anticipating the future, and making judgments. Mindfulness consists of letting go of negative thoughts and emotions to cultivate inner peace and calm. Many people achieve mindfulness through regular meditation, often practiced twice daily for weeks.
